1999 News

  • 1999 Graduate She's Classy (OBS March) won The Buttons and Bows stakes at Fairplex Park on September 14, 1999 and prior to that ran second to Chiluki in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante and the Grade II Sorrento Stakes.

  • 1999 Graduate Never Wink (Fasig Tipton Maryland) won The Pathajubenile Stakes at Philidelphia Park for trainer Anthony Dutrow in his second start! He has now won two starts and placed in four starts.

  • Niall Brennan Stables is also represented by many other two-year-old winners this year, including these recent winners: Sallybrooke, Shannonaire, Wedding Jitters, Lucky Livi, Ashley Anne's Wish, ifitstobeitsuptome, and Golden Brush.

  • This fall, many past program graduates made headlines winning major races. Mark Stanley's Ecton Park winner of the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga won the $500,000 Super Derby at Louisianna Downs on October 2, 1999. Pleasant Temper has won three stake races back-to-back, most recently the $100,000 Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf Handicap by three lengths at Turfway Park increasing her earnings to $709,569. Crafty Friend sprinted his way to two Grade II victories this fall with impressive wins in the Tom Fool stakes and the Forgeo stakes in New York.

  • Also making impressive moves on the track are the 1998 program graduates. Thanks Frank won the Kingland Stakes at the Meadowlands on October 2, 1999 and Dreamy Maiden won her first black type race, winning the Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland for trainer Elliott Walden on October 13, 1999.

    Faith's Wish (TYB 2000 Graduate) broke his maiden at Turfway Park in a very gutsy performance on November 25.
    Bicentennial (2000 Program Graduate) also put in a terrific performance to break his maiden at Aqueduct on November 26.
    Color Me Happy (TYB 2000 Graduate) broke her maiden in impressive style at Laurel Race Course for trainer Tony Dutrow on November 24.

    Premere Rose (TYB 2000) ran a close second after stumbling at the start in the $100,000 NY Stallion Stakes “The Fifth Avenue Division”.
    Twin Shooter (2000 Program Graduate) also ran second in the 6 furlong Anthony Desprito Stakes at Suffolk Downs on

  • Nov. 11.
    Shirley Temper (2000 Program Graduate) was stakes placed in the $100,000 Debutante Stakes at Hoosier Park on Nov. 11. Her record is 3-1- 2-0.
    Power Puff Girl (2000 Program Graduate) easily won her first start in Puerto Rico.
    Sultry Bebe (TYB 2000) was also impressive in her debut winning a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs in her first attempt.

    Kiss A Native (1999 Sales Graduate) won the Gr. II Pegasus Handicap making it his fourth straight victory and increasing his earnings to $736,940. His record is now 8 wins in 12 starts!
    Premier Rose (2000 TYB Graduate) won her second race in allowance company at Laurel. Her record is now 3-2-0-0. Congratulations to trainer Tony Dutrow.
    In Japan, Kurofune (TYB 2000) easily won a maiden race in his second start.
    Good Game (TYB ‘99) was a recent winner of the GR.III Valley View Stakes at Keeneland on October 21. 1999 Program Graduate Impending Bear was an equally impressive second in the same race.
    Shirley Temper (2000 Program Graduate) ran a very good second in the Summer Stakes at Keeneland Racecourse. Her record is 3-2-1-0.
    Early (2000 Program Graduate) was also a winner at Keeneland. He broke his maiden at Keeneland in a Maiden Special Weight race.
    Yonaguska (TYB 2000) ran a very game third in his final prep for the Breeder’s Cup, the $500,000 Champagne Stakes at Belmont on October 14. 
    Kiss A Native (1999 Sales Graduate) won the Col. R.S.McLaughlin Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada increasing his lifetime earnings to $491,360.
    Take Out The Silks (TYB 1999) broke her maiden after running second four consecutive times.
    Griffinite ( 2000 Program Graduate) broke his maiden in his second attempt by an impressive 8 lengths at Belmont Racetrack in New York, New York.
    Romanza (2000 Program Graduate) put in a gutsy performance to break her maiden for trainer Tony Dutrow.
    Twin Shooter (2000 Program Graduate) was a closing third in the $75,000 Dover Stakes

    Yonaguska (TYB 2000) dead heated with City Zip for a win in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes on the closing weekend at Saratoga. These two year old colts have been battling with each other throughout the summer! Yonaguska's record is now 4-3-1-0 !
    Primere Rose (TYB 2000) making just her second start broke her maiden at Delaware for trainer Tony Dutrow. Congratulations to her winning connections!

    Croom (2000 Sales Graduate) was second in the the Junior Champion Stakes at Monmouth on Saturday, August 26.
    Twin Shooter (2000 Program Graduate) won his second start by an impressive 5 1/2 lengths on Wednesday, August 30.

    SMILING BOB ('99 Program Graduate) broke his maiden on the turf at Saratoga in maiden special weight on August 21.
    GOOD GAME (TYB '99) ran a game second in the Lake Placid at Saratoga on August 21.
    BELLE CLAIRE (TYB '99) scored another impressive win in allowance company at Saratoga on August 17 her record is now 4-2-2-0.
    Over the weekend, the 2000 program graduates came to hand with three two year old fillies winning their debuts. SHIRLEY TEMPER won her first start at Ellis Park in Kentucky. DANCE TOUR and SWEEPING EVA followed suit winning their respective races at Calder Racecourse in Miami.

     Lying Brian (OBS April) broke his maiden at Calder Racetrack in Miami on July 21, 2000.

    In Japan, Beach Flag (TYB '99) narrowly missed another stakes win finishing a game second in the Grand Chariot Cup Gr III, thereby increasing her earnings to $450,497.
    Yonaguska (TYB '00) was second in the July 27, 2000 running of the Sanford Stakes for two year olds at Saratoga Racecourse. His race record is now 3 -2-1-0.
    Keep it Holy (TYB '99) won his second turf race in a row on July 29, 2000 at Saratoga.

    Niall Brennan Program Graduates were winners in three races at Laurel Race Track in Maryland:
    Gorham Hall won his second consecutive race easily by four lengths.
    Capamore broke his maiden in impressive style having been second in his first attempt and Good Game won the Christianna Stakes going 1 1/8 mile on the turf. She ran gamely to prevail by a neck.
    Belle Claire continued on the winning ways of the others by breaking her maiden at Belmont by nine lengths.
    Deputy Run a 2000 program graduate was fourth in the Criterium Stakes at Calder. He was flying at the finish and was only beaten by a neck for everything! He has won 2 races previously, very impressive for a two-year-old!

  • News Flash! Wednesday, June 28, 2000
     It looks like the graduates from our 2000 program are off to another terrific year on the racetrack. Our first graduate to make the races did so with an extraordinary 9 3/4 length win. In addition to his last performance, Yonaguska ( Fasig Tipton Calder) scored another impressive win in the Flash Stakes at Belmont on June 9th. He won this won by an easy five lengths to remain undefeated with a record of 2-2-0-0.
    Deputy Run (OBS Calder) was our second program graduate to make the races. He was dominant in his second start winning by an exciting seven lengths on June 3rd and then ran again 10 days later on June 13 coming home a 3 3/4 length winner.
    Tom the River Rat, (OBS March), was awesome in his debut, winning his first start by an easy eight lengths on June 16th.
    In addition, our past program graduates continue to make noteworthy efforts at the races. Kiss A Native, (OBS April '99), won the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine in Toronto, Ontario on June 10th, making a successful return to the races as a three-year-old after a fantastic two-year-old season in 1999. Gorham Hall scored a formidable five length win at Laurel in his second career start on June 6th.
    Grade I stakes winner Ecton Park ran a sensational second to Golden Missile in the $750,000 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 18 to become our latest program graduate millionaire. His earnings now are $1,014,635.

  • News Flash!
     Preakness week was fantastic for Niall Brennan program graduates. On Wednesday, May 16 Good Game, (OBS March '99), ran second in the Hilltop Stakes ($100,000) at Pimlico. It was a very impressive race as this was her first time at this distance (1 1/16 on the turf) and her previous race had been 6 furlongs on the dirt! She was beaten by a head at the wire, but what a race!!!!

  • On Thursday, May 17 Lucky Livi, (OBS Calder '99), won the Miss Preakness Stakes ($75,000) to notch her second consecutive stakes win and establish her as one of the leading sprint fillies in America.

    To top it all off, Impending Bear, making just her fourth life time start, was third in the Black Eyed Susan (Grade 2) at Pimlico. It was her first effort against this type of company and she certainly looked like she belonged there!

  • The OBS sale was another success for us in a rather touchy market. We sold two of the higher priced fillies of the sale: Hennessy/Becky's Shirt sold for $130,000 and Southern Halo/Precisely Perfect sold for $145,000 and will be heading to Japan for her racing career.

  • The OBS Championship day of racing was very thrilling for us as OBS Select '99 program graduate Lucky Livi won the first race, a sprint for three-year-old fillies valued at $50,000. In the fifth race, the OBS distaff was won by Tactical Move, another Niall Brennan Stables protege.

  • Our next sale is Keeneland in Lexington, KY on April 18, 2000. We are very excited about our strong consignment. This year will we have horses by both exciting freshman sires: Hennessy and French Deputy as well as leading sires Seattle Slew, Dehere, Dynaformer, Dixieland Band, Holy Bull, Deputy Minister and many others.

    On the racing front, last year's graduates, now three-year-olds, continue to visit the winner's circle. Within three days, at three different tracks in three different regions of the country, Niall Brennan Sales Agency was represented by three winners:
    Meadow Peace, trained by Wally Dollase won an allowance race at Santa Anita on Jan. 28, increasing her earnings to $67,425 and improving her record to 3-2-1-0.
    Eden Lodge broke her maiden at Gulfstream on January 29 following her a second in her debut on Jan. 9. She won by 2 1/4 lengths.
    Hades continued on his winning way by putting in a gritty performance, winning by a neck in an allowance race on January 30. He was an impressive second in the Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday, February 1st. His record is now 4-2-1-0.

  • Our success continues in Japan with BEACH FLAG capturing the Violet Stakes (L), increasing her earnings to $261,952 and improving her record to 4-2-1-1.

  • January
    In Japan, King the Fact (Fasig Tipton Calder) won his second start after a second in his debut. Burning Wood (OBS Feb.) was an easy wire to wire winner by five lengths! Her record is 3-2-0-0. We are now represented by three two year old winners in Japan including Fighter Nakayama who is 2-2-0-0.
    She's Classy now has earnings of $257,130 and an impressive list of accomplishments including:

    Never Wink has increased his earnings to $111,450 after winning his second stakes race of 1999! His record is 8-3-2-0. He now has won the Pa-Tha Juvenile, was second in the Huntington Stakes, and is the recent winner of the Ambernash Stakes at Laurel.
    Littleexpectations (OBS Feb) won the Sugar Bowl Handicap, his third stakes win, keeping his record undefeated at 4-4-0-0. His earnings are now $121,223!
    At Aqueduct, Critical Thinker (Fasig Tipton Maryland) won by 3 1/2 lengths after being bumped on the turn. At Calder Racetrack, Prince of Theater (Keeneland April) ran an exceptional race to break his maiden first start going a 1 1/8m on the turf.

    Kurofane (TYB 2000) set a new course record in Japan at 1 1/16 mile in just his second start!. In his first start he equalled the track record!!
    Tom the River Rat (TYB 2000) put in another gutsy performance to win a 1 1/16 allowance race at Calder Race Course in Miami on the turf in a dead heat.

    It All Adds Up (TYB 1999) returns to the races with a win on December 6 at Aqueduct going 1 1/16 mile in allowance company.

  • November 24-25, 2001
    Yonaguska (TYB Graduate 1999) won the Fall Highweight Handicapp (Grade II) at Aqueduct on November 24. His second consecutive stakes win.
    Kurofune (TYB Graduate 1999) became the first horse in JRA history on both the Dirt and the Turf when he won the Grade I Japan Cup last weekend.
    Vingt Presto Swan (TYB 2000 Graduate) broke his maiden in Japan at his second attempt on November 25.
    Loyal Richard (TYB 2000) broke his maiden first try at Calder Race Course on November 25. Congratulations to Old Memorial Stable.

    Nobo True (Program Graduate) won the G1 February Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse. His earnings are now over $1.900,000!

Other than the Floral Park, Carson Hollow also won the Prioress S. (G1) and Bouwerie S. She broke her maiden at first asking by a colossal 18 3/4 lengths. The filly comes out of the Floral Park with a record of 6-5-1-0, $335,370.
